Through the persistence and dynamic leadership of our State Representative, the honorable Gerald Greene, and our new State Senator Sam Watson (not shown), Lake Seminole was awarded $150,000.00 by the State of Georgia to fight the invasive Cuban bulrush (Oxycaryum cubense). These monies will flow through the Georgia Department of Natural Resources to provide for both the mechanical removal and chemical treatment of this invasive.
The presence of Cuban bulrush has exploded since hurricane Michael and is taking over thousands of acres on Lake Seminole. With the monies provided by the State of Georgia we hope to recover several hundreds of acres and prevent the spread in other areas. This win continues the success of the Stewards of Lake Seminole in securing funding from sources other than the Federal government to manage invasive species.
